The Red Mansion Foundation is pleased to present our second and current exhibition at 46 Portland Place which is curated by Carole Lu and Liu Ding and includes works by Hu Liu, Wang
Luyan, Wang Wei and Wu Xiajoun. The Foundation has invited Carol Lu and Liu Ding to give the British audience an opportunity to see a very different perspective of contemporary Chinese art via this group show that will feature the work of four artists. All the artists and their works indicate a new direction of development in the practice of contemporary art in China, which is that their artistic concepts and practice depart from and evolve around some of the most fundamental aspects of art-making.
The artists that will be participating in the show are Hu Liu, Wang Luyan, Wang Wei, and Wu Xiaojun. Hu Liu works through a painstakingly slow and meticulous process of drawing in charcoal to form works with a powerful visual impact. In Wang Luyan's work his attention to mechanical detail and the manipulation and alteration of mechanical detail changes the nature of an object radically. Having examined the exhibition space Wang Wei will create a site specific scaffolding structure which will intervene and interacts with the space. Wu Xiaojun’s work starts with a social and moral concept of conscience, which is then translated into a visual spectacle. These works are markedly distinguished from the usual genre of contemporary Chinese art, which either thrives on a certain ideological purpose or is set out to overthrow or reverse any existing art system mechanism.

For five weeks this autumn, the Serpentine Gallery will take up residence in Battersea Power Station with a presentation of Chinese culture. This is the first chapter in an on-going series of exhibitions of contemporary Chinese art and architecture, organised by the Serpentine Gallery in collaboration with the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Mordern Art, Oslo.
China Power Station: Part 1 is a unique opportunity to visit the iconic Battersea Power Station before it is redeveloped. It will also be the first chance to see the work of an extraordinary and vibrant new generation of Chinese artists and architects installed at this remarkable site.
A WORLD WITHIN A WORLD

A World within a World is Chinese photographer Weng PeiJun's first solo exhibition in the United Kingdom. This exhibition features works from his outstanding 'Staring at the Sea' series and includes a site specific installation 'The Viewing Stand'. Held at The Red Mansion Foundation from 29th June - 28th July, this is a unique opportunity to see Weng's exciting installation work alongside several pieces of his renowned photography.

SOME DAYS
Some days was Chinese photographer Wang Ningde's first solo exhibition in the United Kingdom. This exhibition at The Red Mansion Foundation will showcase more than 30 black and white photographic works from two of Wang Ningde's outstanding photo series Some Days (1999Ongoing) and Dancing in the Outskirts of Town (19972000).

THE RED MANSION ART PRIZE EXHIBITION 2006

The Red Mansion Art Prize was established to promote artistic exchange between China and the UK.
The winners travel to China during the summer where they are given studio space and live and work alongside local artists. Flights, accommodation and pocket money are provided.
The panel of judges, Susan May (Head of Art Council Collection), John Wilson (BBC Journalist), Richard Wentworth (Artists), Edward Lucie-Smith (Writer and Critic) and Nicolette Kwok (Director of The Red Mansion Foundation) made a diverse and exciting selection. The show offers a preview of the next generation of up-and-coming artists.
SONG DONG AT SELFRIDGES
Teaming up with Selfridges, The Foundation is bringing Song Dong to London to create a city sculpture made entirely of sweets and biscuits which, upon completion, the artist will invite the viewers to taste his installation.
