some of its parts Video, 00:16:42, 2017
In 2007, Katie Hare played a gig with her then band at an experimental music venue in the grounds of a drive-in cinema in Beijing. Returning to China almost a decade later, half-hoping to confirm that this seemingly implausible and partially forgotten event had actually happened, she found that the venue no longer existed.

Positioning this event as its pivot, some of its parts combines a personal narrative with reflections on the practice of improvisation and the iconography of a drive-in cinema. Investigating re-occurring motifs and simulations, the work interrogates the impulse to explore a ersonal history and its role in the process of making.
