THE ROYAL ACADEMICIANS IN CHINA
During their stay in China, each Royal Academician lectured at the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing and met and worked with local artists. The artists participating in the inaugural programme were:
JOHN BELLANY
PAUL HUXLEY
ALLEN JONES
DAVID MACH
IAN McKEEVER
BRENDAN NEILAND
CHRIS ORR
The artists created a body of work, which has been exhibited internationally. The exhibition “Royal Academicians in China” opened at the National Museum in Beijing on 14 April 2005, moving to the Shanghai Art Museum from 18 June and returning to London 23 December 2005.
The exhibition and associated educational programme will allow the Chinese public to better understand the richness of contemporary British art and give the British public the opportunity to learn about Chinese influence in artistic practice through the Royal Academicians’ work.
“This is my first visit to China and I’ve fallen in love with China, its people, its landscape, its cities, its own special beauty and above all its mystery”
John Bellany
